Get to Know: Mackenzie

MacKenzie Ortlepp

Year on Team: First Year on the Team, Sophomore

Age: 19

Major: B.A in Biochemistry

Hometown: Meridian, Mississippi

My favorite Rebelette season is Rebel football season! After a season of ups and downs, it has definitely been an adventure cheering on the Rebels, but I couldn’t imagine cheering for any other team! Most importantly, we CRUSHED Mississippi State, which is a huge deal if you are from Mississippi. Mississippi is a divided state for sure, and the Egg Bowl is a huge “hometown” match up for us Mississippians. We have regained what is rightfully ours, and the EGG is back where it belongs! Words can’t even begin to describe the excitement of that experience! From the new release of the “Feed Moncrief” song to the entire student section storming the field, that night never gets old! This is OUR state! Hotty Toddy!

An interesting fact about me is that I have seen both sides of the spirit squad organization here at Ole Miss! My freshman year I was a cheerleader and this year, my sophomore year, I am a rebelette! For any of you debating whether you want to continue your talents in cheer or dance, I say go for it! A spirit squad at Ole Miss is for you! Not only do you get to experience the every day life of an Ole Miss student, but you are able to experience athletic events and appearances as an “insider,” and you will reap all of the benefits too!

Hope this helped everyone get to know Mackenzie a little bit better! Keep checking back to see what else we are up to.

Love always,
Ole Miss Rebelettes

Year on Team: Junior

Age: 20

Major: Pharmacy

Hometown: Fairhope, Alabama

My favorite Rebelette season is nationals. I have been competing on a dance team since I was six years old and love to be in the competition setting. Nationals is a time when we truly become a team because of our dedication to our goal of being the best we can be. I am so thankful for the bonds formed during our preparation for nationals because that time is what makes us strong and ready to compete against the best college dance teams in the country. There are no words to describe the feelings we share when we run out of the castle onto the stage to perform.

I love Glee, running, reading, and movies. One of my favorite things to do when I spend time at home is cook for my family and friends. Since I am from the coast of Alabama, I did not grow up an Ole Miss fan, but am so glad I am now part of the Rebel family. I get chills every time I step into the stadium to pump up the crowd during pre game and cheer on our Rebels. I am so glad I can be a part of such an amazing team!

Love always,
Ole Miss Rebelettes

Year on Team: 1st Year Freshmen

Age: 18

Hometown: Pass Christian, MS

Major: Mechanical Engineering

There is nothing like cheering on the rebels from the sideline and getting to be a part of the game!  I have always been very competitive and I love encouraging our team.  I cannot explain how awesome pre-game is in the Vaught! It is amazing to watch all of the students “lock the Vaught” and watch all the pom poms wave to Dixie! I couldn’t ask for a better game-day experience.

I was born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast spending most of my time out on the water! I enjoy fishing, tanning, and swimming in the summertime.  I come from a dancing family! My grandmother opened her own studio and raised a family of dancing queens! My mother was also a Rebelette, so it is really special to share our experiences with each other! I have one younger sister who is a junior in high school, and I hope she decides to join me at Ole Miss in a couple of years. Both of my parents graduated from Ole Miss and I am happy to carry on the tradition! I love Ole Miss and especially being a part of the Rebelettes. I am very thankful for my new dancing family!

An End to Our Marching

After our FANTASTIC Egg Bowl win...

Ole Miss - 41 vs Mississippi State - 24

Our band season has finally ended.  We had a BLAST at our band banquet! We have enjoyed every moment of every show this year.  Luckily, we got to fit in 3 different halftime shows.  Hopefully we will be able to perform our last show one more time at our bowl game.

Each of the seniors: Kelley Deibler, Haleigh Huddleston, Alexis Leahy, Garrett McDonald, Caroline Mitchell, Danielle Smith, and Natalie Wood, were all recognized tonight after being part of the Pride of the South for four amazing years.  They each gratefully received a blanket to help remember all the memories.

I think we can all agree that The Pride of the South Marching Band has given each of us many fun memories this year.  But who really had the most fun tonight was...

MATTI with her awesome new band mug!

Keep checking back to see more of what we are up to and what BOWL GAME we will be dancing at. Hotty Toddy!!

Love always,
Ole Miss Rebelettes

Major: Business Marketing

Basketball is probably my favorite season because we get to interact more with the crowd throughout the game like when we throw t-shirts to the fans. We are also featured at time outs and halftime which is fun because I get more opportunities to perform. I love that we have our own little dressing room in the stadium as well. Last, the basketball band is awesome and I love dancing to the music they play.

I’m the youngest member of the team! In fact, I got to celebrate my 18th birthday with the Rebelettes this past September. I’m very excited to compete in Nationals in January because I’ll get an opportunity to compete against my sister, who is on University of Michigan’s dance team and we are very competitive with each other. I love being a part of this team because I get a chance to be involved in school spirit that not many people get.

Hope this helped everyone get to know Mary Kate a little bit better! Stay posted for more updates on what we are up to and what bowl game we get to go to!

Love always,
Ole Miss Rebelettes
